A New Year's Revolution

It was a day like any other day as Violet Haze returned from his morning patrol to The Bunker, the operations building for Team Rainbow Super Force. For over a year Violent Haze had patrolled the streets of Pleasantview, and he couldn't help but think to himself how quiet and routine things had become recently.

It wasn’t long after Violent entered his home that Chromed Avenger approached him with an important message. Chromed Avenger was responsible for a great many things, many of which Violet could barely comprehend, and he knew it must be important if Chromed Avenger had taken the time to inform him personally. Within a few seconds, Chromed informed him that he had received a trans-planetary encoded signal from a being named Tamal, and that Tamal was urgently searching for someone named Lazlo, Violet Haze's true identity. This was such an unexpected occurrence that he stood dumbfounded for a moment before finally asking Chromed to patch the signal to his workstation.

At his workstation, Violet pulled up the signal on his screen. The familiar face of one of his former colleague greeted him warmly.

"Lazlo, there you are," greeted Tamal. "I have been looking everywhere for you."

"Tamal, it has been some time. I hope you are well."

"I am still alive and kicking. However things are not as good as when you were around. Do you remember a man named Feldagral who was from my home world?"

"I remember the name. I believe he was a captain in one of our regiments. I never met him personally, but I remember he had a reputation for getting the job done."

"Didn't we all. Your memory serves you correctly. However six months ago he left the service and staged a coup on our planet. It seemed like a good thing at first. I even helped him pull it off. But in recent months he has become more like a military dictator instead of working for the common good of the people. So, I have been organizing my own men to overthrow him."

"That sounds noble, and I wish you luck. But why did you need to get in touch with me?"

"I need your help. You are the best strategic planner for field ops we ever had working in the Galactic Services. I already hired some mercs for firepower. I just need you to look over my plans and see if I have missed anything or if there is a way to do this better."

"Well, I don’t suppose there would be any harm in sending me your plans to review."

"I need more than that. I need you here as well. You know how to anticipate when things go wrong and how to recover from them during an op."

"Tamal, I don't do that kind of work anymore. Not since what happened to my brother."

"Didn't I tell you? Feldagral was the regiment leader who got your brother killed. It was his mistakes that led to his death. At the very least, if you come here, you can confront him, and avenge your brother."

"I will consider your request," Violet informed after a long pause.

After several hours of contemplation, Violet Haze contacted Ebon Huntress to discuss the situation. Following some serious debate and conjecture, they agreed that he should go and offer tactical help only and strictly for the purpose of confronting the man responsible for his brother's death. Ebon was confident that Violet would not do anything rash, but she was surprised and relieved that he asked if he could bring along Captain Crimson and Azure Maiden along as backup, just in case things went seriously wrong. She approved the request, confident that together they would keep each other safe.

Violet called Azure Maiden and Captain Crimson into the briefing room and explained the situation as accurately as possible with the preliminary intelligence at his disposal. He assured them this mission was completely voluntary and acceptance would also require them to participate in a rigorous physical training program to prepare for the extreme conditions they would encounter.

Captain Crimson and Azure Maiden both agreed to go along and threw themselves into the task. They spent the next several days participating in the most grueling and intense combat drills imaginable, with Violet Haze constantly pushing them harder in the hopes that they would be ready to face anything they might encounter in an alien environment. They drilled for hours at a stretch, barely taking any time to eat or sleep.

Despite their exhaustion, the meeting with Tamal could wait no longer. On the appointed day they gathered their gear and boarded a transport provided by the Galactic Services. Violet Haze embraced Ebon Huntress warmly, swearing he would return, along with his teammates, to continue fighting for peace and justice by her side.

A few days later, Azure Maiden and Captain Crimson found themselves following Violet Haze through a dense jungle on the world of Bainiki. After a few hours hiking through the foliage, they entered the edge of Tamal's campsite.

Having been alerted to the presence of the outsiders by his guards, Tamal greeted Violet Haze upon entering the compound.

"Lazlo, it's been too long," Tamal commented. "And I see you brought some friends along too."

"Yes, a couple people I have been training over the past year for special services. They are here as observers."

"No matter, I have plenty of men for the assault. Allow me to introduce them."

After introducing his men, Tamal showed Violet Haze his plans. Violet studied the plan and looked over Tamal's men, a couple whom he recognized from his days in the service. He came to the conclusion that Tamal's plan should succeed.

Upon making their final preparation, the group started their trek through the dense jungle. Although they weren’t expecting any kind of resistance, Violet, Crimson and Azure held back far enough to keep Tamal and his group just within sight range.

Several hours passed before the group came upon their final destination, a back entrance into the presidential estate. Tamal's men had already secured the area and quietly neutralized the President's guards. Tamal assured Violet Haze the guards were not dead, as there was no point in killing men who were just following orders.

With the perimeter guards removed from their posts, the group entered the estate and quickly secured the halls to the main office.

Having his men establish look-out positions in the hall, Tamal and Violet Haze entered Feldagral's office and prepared for their confrontation with the President.

As they approached, Feldagral sat calmly behind his desk, almost as if he had expected the sudden interruption.

"Tamal," Feldagral addressed. "I was not expecting to see you again so soon. But your appearance explains the sudden lack of communication I had with my guards. I take it you are responsible for this?"

"I am," Tamal responded. "I am sure you knew this was coming, Feldagral. I am here to relieve you of your stranglehold on our people."

"I doubt you will do much better, Tamal."

"Wait a minute." Violet interrupted. "Tamal, you aren't planning to take over, are you?"

"Of course I am," Tamal responded. "It's not called a coup for nothing."

"But I thought you were going setup a democratic government in his place."

"Oh I will, when I am on my death bed."

"Then I am afraid I will have to stop you."

"No, Lazlo, that won't be happening either."

At that moment, Tamal's guards burst into the room and quickly apprehended Violet Haze before he had a chance to react.

"I learned a lot from you, Lazlo," Tamal stated. "One of the most important things was to never reveal your entire plan to anyone you don't completely trust. The only difference with you was I knew how you would react. As you surmised, I didn't really need your help with this operation, but I couldn't take the chance you would find out later and decide to do something about it. I know how you feel about military leaders governing the people. That was why you left the service, after all. I needed to make sure I could keep an eye on you until I had myself properly established with the Galactic Council. As the recognized leader of this world under the Galactic Protectorate no one will be able to usurp my authority. Men, take these prisoners to a holding cell. I'll decide what to do with them after I have dealt with some more pressing matters of state."

Violet Haze, Captain Crimson, Azure Maiden and Feldagral found themselves behind the lock and key of a dingy prison cell. Violet was contemplating his next move when Feldagral interrupted his meditation.

"You there," asked Feldagral. "You look familiar somehow. Do I know you from somewhere?"

"We've never met," answered Violet as he approached Feldagral. "But I used to be in the service as a trainer and field commander. But I suspect you must be talking about my brother, Tizrelo Sutani."

"Ah, yes, Tizrelo. He was a fine young warrior and one of my best field commanders. It must run in the family."

"We came from a highly militaristic world where you can't become a citizen without entering the service. It is only by coming back as a war hero that a citizen moves into the upper halls of our government. Millions from my world join the service every year, and few ever return. My brother will not be returning home, thanks to you."

"What are you talking about? Are you referring to the Hektalari campaign? Yes, I admit I lost your brother there. It was a terrible tragedy. But it was not by my order. In fact, I specifically told Tamal not to proceed with that plan of his."

"Tamal's plan?"

"Yes. Tamal was the lieutenant in charge of Tizrelo's platoon. He convinced Tizrelo his plan was sound and had him attack despite my orders not to proceed. If you came here to confront me over your brother's death then I am afraid you are accusing the wrong man."

Though he couldn't really say why, Violet Haze had a clear sense that Feldagral's words were sincere. He had continued working on an escape plan in the back of his mind, and with this new insight into his brother's fate he was even more resolved to put a stop to Tamal's plans before they had a chance to bear fruit. He called Captain Crimson and Azure Maiden into a huddle to speak to them in private. He explained the current situation to them and decided that now was the time to put his plan into action.

Violet had Feldagral stand back as Azure Maiden and Captain Crimson used their powers to remove the cell bars that kept them captive.

With the bars removed, Violet Haze instructed Feldagral to have his troops meet them back in the President's office where they would confront Tamal as a group.

Violet Haze had no trouble getting through the corridors back to the main office. Upon entering he was surprised to find Tamal only had a couple of his men with him.

"Ah, Lazlo," greeted Tamal. "You escaped the prison cell. I figured you would eventually, although how you did it so quickly intrigues me. You weren’t even in there for an hour. I will have to come up with a better prison for you this time."

"There won't be a this time, Tamal," Violet responded. "I am here to make sure you won't be sitting behind that desk any longer."

"I don't see how you can stop me." At that moment, the rest of Tamal's men came rushing in the room to stand by their leader. However, at the same moment, a secret panel opened on the opposite side of the room where Feldagral's guards came rushing in as well.

Violet, Crimson and Azure stood in the middle of the room as the two factions squared off, raising their fists in anger and taunting each other to attack.

Having heard enough squabbling, Violet instructed Crimson and Azure to put up walls to keep the groups separated. Everyone quickly backed away from the intense heat and cold generated by the elemental barriers.

"Lazlo, what is this?" Tamal asked in surprise.

"My backup plan," Violet responded. "Surely you have one as well. It's only the most important lesson I tried to drill you on in the service."

"It seems you have anticipated mine. Well done, Lazlo. You always were the best. So how's this going to play out? Who are you going to leave in charge?"

"That's easy, neither of you. Before leaving to join you, Tamal, I contacted the Galactic Council and informed them of the situation developing on this planet. Even as we speak they are sending a delegation and a regiment to see that the people are free to elect whomever they choose as their officials.

"Good," acknowledged Feldagral. "I am certain that I have enough followers that will see that I am properly elected."

"Don't count on it," Violet responded. "You are forgetting that the Galactic Council frowns on military dictatorships and dissolves them whenever possible. I am pretty sure that your name won't be appearing on the ballot. So for now, we're all just going to sit tight until the representatives get here and I can turn control over to them."

It wasn't long before the representatives from the Galactic Council arrived and, as agreed, Violet turned control of the situation over to them. With nothing left to do, Violet Haze, Captain Crimson and Azure Maiden began their long journey back to the ship, and their home.

Back in the conference room of the East Side Center, Ebon Huntress welcome her teammates back from a mission well done. She commended Violet Haze on a well thought out plan to sort out a bad situation.

"But Lazlo, what did you decide to do about your brother's death?" inquired Ebon.

"The truth is, my brother died in the service of the Galactic Protectorate. It doesn't matter who was in direct command. It was a mission that probably shouldn't have existed in the first place. A long time ago, I decide to blame the people who were really responsible for getting my brother killed; the people that started the conflict in the first place. That goes for all of the other people who cause similar conflicts as well. For if there was no conflict, there would have been no reason for my brother or I to be in the service to begin with. That alone was the reason I came to this world and to work with you, to help stop conflicts before they could get that far out of control."

"And we're a better team by having you here to help with that."

So concludes the thirteenth chapter of Team Rainbow Super Force. Stay tuned for Chapter 14: Cross Pollinization
